Branding

Layer Z are a new brand bringing a personalised marketing platform into the world.

The Challenge

Layer Z came to us with just an idea, there was no physical product in sight but there was innovation. With great innovation came two minds. The biggest challenge? Striking the perfect balance. On one side, a director pushing for boundless creativity, on the other, a counterpart wanting simplicity and minimalism, letting the product speak for itself.

Strategy & Discovery

Our main aim was to truly understand what Layer Z wanted to be. To do this we have designed and carried out various creative workshops to extract the subconscious idea that wasn't so easily translated into words. Through this immersive journey, we were able to truly SEE what Layer Z wanted to be. With all this information we gathered in the workshops, all we needed was data to push our decisions. This mix of workshops and research set the stage for creating Layer Z's unique brand.

Branding

We didn't just create the branding for Layer Z. We created Layer Z. Brand mission? We helped them understand what they wanted to bring to the world. Core values? We helped them identify what they truly are. The tag line? Yep, also us. Our team were asked to create a whole brand identity and that is exactly what we did, our design team have even created a 40+ page document on brand guidelines!

Logo Design

The logo is a mix of 'creative' and 'simple'. The idea is that systems in programming have 3 layers: x, y and z. The Z layer is the user-facing part of a system which is the whole concept of the software that Layer Z are developing. Hence the logo having 3 layers and the Z being on top (facing the users), simple but creative. The colours we have chosen for the logo support the aspect of being different and disruptive.

Tone of voice

We didn't stop at creating the logo. Our team have also developed the perfect tone of voice for Layer Z to ensure the right ideas and feelings are shared with the target audience. It was all about being honest, bold and disruptive. Having a set-in-stone tone of voice-enabled our creative teams to begin writing tag lines, core values, and mission statements and constructing the whole brand from scratch.
