We are delighted to introduce you to our newest member Rebecca Gatley. Becca joined us in November for her placement on Channel 4 X Sharp Futures Content Creatives course and is here with us until March.

Find out more about Becca and her journey over the past few years before she landed with us here at Visions Design.

I'm Becca, a content creator here at Visions Design on a 16-week placement. How did I get here you ask? It's been crazy, so let me tell you.

Back in 2019, I started University at Futureworks in Manchester on a 3 year Independent Filmmaking course. I love everything about the process of making a Film/TV show, so being there was just divine. I learnt everything from pre-production through to post-production. I directed my own short film, wrote a script or two and created a Director of Photography portfolio where I shot some incredible stuff. I quickly figured out I loved camera work and that I wanted to become a director of photography one day.

That is until 2022 hit - when I graduated! That's it, 3 years, over and done just like that. What do I do now? I shot some Mixed Martial Arts fights and helped on some short film shoots with friends, but ultimately I was trapped in my hospitality job. I didn't know how to get out. Don't get me wrong, I did love it, but my passion was always to be in the creative industry and I couldn't ignore it any longer.

By chance, I came across an ad for Channel 4's Content Creatives Course. WOW, 8 weeks of bespoke training with Channel 4 and Sharp Futures and then 16 weeks of placement at a creative company. This was my moment, I had nothing to lose, so I applied. An online interview, an in-person interview, a pitch and a nerve-wracking wait, I did it! I quit my job and found myself sitting in Channel 4 HQ in Leeds surrounded by like-minded individuals.

I had the most incredible 8 weeks of training with a talented cohort where we covered everything from podcasts to copywriting, to video editing. We even had the chance to speak with guest speakers from the industry who gave amazing advice. These 8 weeks will be something I treasure throughout my career. I was made aware of so many different paths I could take, now I'm torn on where I want to be!

I was lucky enough to have already met Charlie, Head of Operations, and Dan, CEO, at my interview and loved their enthusiasm and work ethic. Charlie told me that day 'Feel the fear and do it anyway' and I have stuck by that ever since! When I got the phone call that I was being placed at Visions I was over the moon.

Since November, I have been introduced to so many new things I've never done before like web and logo design, learning Adobe Illustrator and After Effects and I am still getting to grips with how digital marketing works. It's so eye-opening to see another side of the creative industry.

I am currently focusing on the brand's social media, digital marketing and learning how to write blogs, which I would never have seen myself doing! So welcome to my first one! Everyone has made me feel so welcome, I am so excited to see what the next 5 weeks hold for me, and I keep pushing myself each day.
