All you need to know about responsive design

Why Responsive Logo Design?

You’ve likely heard about “responsive web design”. However, not many business owners know about the need for designing responsive logos.

Today, you can choose from an array of options, when it comes to displaying your logo and they all vary in size. And with screen sizes shrinking and new advertising channels popping up, it’s important to recognise that a one size fits all approach to logos won’t work any longer.

What is a Responsive Logo?

Just like a responsive website adapts to different screen sizes, a responsive logo adapts to the size of the device it’s loading on.

It’s a shape-shifting logo that can change in colour, size or complexity to adapt to and accommodate the device it’s displayed on.

A responsive logo design will adapt to the size of the screen to strip out or add details as necessary to ensure the logo is legible and clear. This process moves branding away from rigid, fixed guidelines towards a more contextual, flexible system.

Why is Responsive Design Good?

Digital – More and more people prefer mobile browsing over desktop browsing. This alone is reason enough to create at least one alternate version of your logo.

In fact, the screen sizes are only shrinking further, what with the advent of smart bracelets, smart watches and smart glasses.

Your full-size logo may look cool on your phone. But are you prepared for the time when it will be crammed into a corner of the screen on an AR app, looking illegible?

And then, there are those tiny ads, which shrink your logo, making your brand look bad.

Print – Apart from the digital space, businesses are turning to newer, diverse avenues for advertising. For traditional methods such as promotional stationery (pens, t-shirts, hats, bags), your logo needs to look good irrespective of the size but across different materials.

This flexibility in your logo can come handy even when you are considering guerrilla marketing or graffiti murals.
